ਅਖਰ brings the SGGS source, local search, recurring-word evidence and a personal notebook together. This page supports the offline iPhone and iPad edition, published by Albel Singh.

From curiosity to thoughtful study

ਅਖਰ helps readers turn a moment of curiosity into a sustained, thoughtful study of Gurbani.

A word encountered during reading can open deeper questions: Where else does it appear? Which words repeatedly accompany it? How does its context change? What might these passages invite me to reconsider in my own life?

Following those questions requires finding references, comparing passages, checking the original source and preserving observations. ਅਖਰ brings these activities into one accessible workspace on iPhone and iPad.

The gap it fills is the distance between finding a passage and developing an understanding that can be examined, supported and revisited. Readers can move from a word to its occurrences, from a pattern to its supporting passages, and from an observation to a growing personal glossary. The source remains close at hand throughout.

Practical examples of its value include:

Its living glossary gives this research continuity: observations, source evidence, open questions and reflections on daily life can grow together. The app is free, works offline and keeps personal notes on the device.

The app’s current connections are patterns for investigation: occurrence counts and nearby words provide evidence, while grammatical and interpretive conclusions remain the reader’s work.

How do I search in Gurmukhi?

Type Gurmukhi directly, or type or paste the original PDF's font-encoded text and see Gurmukhi as you type: for example, siq nwmu is read as ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ. Search options let you choose exact words or phrases, or allow spelling variants.

Can I find words beyond a single line?

Choose Words in a passage, then set Within to a source line, two adjoining lines or Whole shabad (inferred). Shabad boundaries are inferred from the source structure, so review the surrounding text and original PDF before quoting a composition.

What do the connection counts mean?

Recurring nearby words appear in at least two source contexts near your search. A shared-context count describes how many contexts contain a nearby word; an occurrence count counts its distinct positions in the source. One context may contain the word more than once. Overlapping two-line spans can share an occurrence.

Spelling and vicinity settings affect these results. Exact word forms are counted separately; a broader spelling search can include variants. Open a count to inspect its evidence. Written proximity does not by itself establish meaning or grammar.

Does the app need the internet or use AI?

The source, searches, connections and notebook work offline. This edition has no cloud AI, account, advertising or analytics. It does not send your searches or notes to a server. Opening a website, sending a support email or sharing to another service uses that destination's connection and policies.

How can I keep a copy of my notebook?

Use Export notebook in the Notebook tab to save a JSON copy to a location you choose. This version does not import an exported notebook; keep the file as a readable copy of your entries and evidence references.

The working notebook stays inside the app. Device backups may include it according to your Apple settings. Deleting the app removes its local data, so export anything you want to keep before deletion.

I noticed a spelling, source or highlighting issue.

Check the original PDF, then contact support with the search text, Ang and PDF page, selected search options, and a short description of what you expected. If useful, include a screenshot with private notes removed. The search index is automatically converted, and the PDF remains the reference for checking quotations.
